Job Title: Social Worker – Paediatric Oncology - Children’s Cancer Support
Location: Cardiff, Wales
Contract: Initial 3-6 Month Contract (Potential for Permanent Placement)
Pay Rate: Up to £37 per hour (Umbrella)

Join a dedicated Welsh Cancer Charity that provides crucial support to children undergoing cancer treatment and their families. This temporary position has opened up due to the departure of a long-standing team member, presenting a unique and meaningful opportunity to be part of a supportive, impactful environment. Previous agency workers have praised the team’s collaborative spirit and positive management.The Role:
This is a family-facing position where you’ll provide essential support to children receiving treatment for cancer and their families. Your role will be pivotal in offering both practical assistance and emotional care.Key Responsibilities:
- Support Services: Assist families with benefit applications (e.g., PIP, Blue Badge) and provide guidance tailored to their specific needs.
- Emotional Support: Offer compassionate, empathetic support to parents and families navigating complex, often challenging circumstances.
- Caseload Management: Manage a caseload of 30-35 cases, varying in complexity, ensuring each family receives the care and assistance they need. Some out of county travel will be required, approximately one day a week as caseload will be spread Wales-wide.
- Collaborative Work: Work closely with health teams and social services when necessary to coordinate holistic care plans.
- On-Site Presence: Be based primarily at the Cardiff hospital, where the team operates out of a shared office with a dedicated space for social workers. The ward and parent accommodation are conveniently located within the same building.
Ideal Experience:
- Experience with bereavement support, particularly for palliative cases.
- Work with children with disabilities and families experiencing major life changes.
- Experience in the third sector or charitable organisations is a plus.

Other requirements:
- Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent plus consolidation if required
- Registration with Social Care Wales
- DBS on the update service or willingness to complete a new DBS application at your expense.
