Pay rate up to £38.43 per hour Umbrella in line with the ADSS pledge

A Qualified Social Worker is required to join Blaenau Gwent Childrens Services, East Locality Team. The role offers hybrid and flexible working, with an office base of the Integrated Childrens Centre in Blaina, Abertillery.  This is an initial 6 month maternity cover contract. Pay rate is in line with the All Wales Pledge, both PAYE and Umbrella company options are available.

The authority uses a strength-based approach and are very outcomes focused. There is a mentor within every team and the host group supervision, 1-2-1 supervision as well as regular team meetings. In addition, the authority received commendation in their recent inspection for their strengths based practices and workforce development. Agency workers are treated the same as permanent staff and will be given access to in house training courses. As a new member of the team you will get an induction as well as 2 weeks of shadowing.

What are we looking for and what will the role entail?

The opportunities available are ideally for full time workers, however, consideration will be given to those looking for flexible hours with childcare and other commitments etc. You will need to be ABE trained as you will be dealing with Section 47s in this role. The locality teams work with anything from the front door in order to build relationships with the clients and follow the cases through. There is an expectation of court work however based on current cases, court work is few and far between.

The authority offer agile working and for duty days (typically once a fortnight) you will need to be office based. If you have experience of using WCCIS this is advantageous, however not essential. The office site on office days is Blaina where you will have access to child health and disability service, the education department, edge of care services etc.

To apply for this role, you will need to hold -

  • A minimum of 6 months experience of working in the UK as a registered social worker
  • A relevant Social Work Qualification
  • Registration with Social Care Wales / Social Work England
  • Enhanced DBS, registered on the update service or be happy to apply for a DBS
  • 3 Years of referencing 
  • Driving license with access to a car
